Following the UK Government’s recent call for evidence on potential equality law reforms, including in relation to equal pay and pay transparency (which we cover here), businesses could be forced to tell workers what their colleagues are earning under new measures designed to boost pay transparency with the aim of ending pay discrimination.
Dónall Breen, a Senior Associate at the employment law firm Littler, said: “Ultimately, the net effect of the proposals under this call for evidence, and the EU directive, are the same.”
“There will be a proactive duty on employers to consider pay equity in their organisation and employees will have much more information about salary bands and pay structuring.”
